Depending on where you live, this destination makes for a great extended weekend road trip or nice detour from a vacation in the larger, nearby cities of Tampa or Orlando. When staying in Clearwater Beach, however, we highly recommend the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa. The property is beautiful and the staff friendly and attentive. The location can’t be beat, right next to the pier and in the heart of the main street action.
Stress-free Weekend on the Beach
Clearwater Beach is consistently ranked among the top beaches in the country, and for good reason. Wide expanses of sand, an entertaining boardwalk and pier, and plenty of hotel resorts with private loungers and cabanas make this beach perfect for those who want a relaxing weekend and those looking for more active pursuits. Throw in a lively Main Street with plenty of bars, shopping, and restaurants and you’d be forgiven for just leaving your car parked at the hotel for the duration of your stay. If you do want to venture out, however, Clearwater Aquarium makes for a great afternoon excursion, especially if you have children. The home of Winter the dolphin (from Dolphin Tale) will capture their hearts as they learn about the brave little dolphin that endured great hardship early on in life as well as all the other rescued animals that now call the aquarium home. A little further out, about 45 minutes away, is Busch Gardens Tampa which will also satisfy you little ones’ desire to see fuzzy creatures and get a rush of adrenaline. Of course, baseball fans will want to try to catch the Blue Jays or the Phillies in spring training while in the area. There is no shortage of things to do in the Clearwater Beach area.
